Depressants, quite simply, depress our thoughts and feelings. The definition of depress is “push down, lessen, or decrease.” When we take depressants, we are “pushing down,” or avoiding our natural mental and emotional patterns—our innate feelings!

A spiritual program concedes that self-will alone is not how we intend to continue living. As part of a spiritual life, we ask for support in the forms of direction and power.

Discernment means you are engaging your highest consciousness in the decision-making process.

Beyond the mental and emotional experience of motivation there is inspiration—or being in-spirit. Rather than doing something because it is logical, moral, or safe, inspiration is a calling. Instead of you having an idea, it’s as if an idea has you. Nearly the direct opposite of motivation in many cases, it manifests as desire not always explainable to others. Many times when inspired, instead of strategically trying to avoid risk, instead you will have to allow fear to exist in your endeavors.

I’ve heard God described as a mystery. It does not reveal itself through science, ultimatum, or wishful thinking. It does not need you to believe in it. It has infinite patience, and will allow you to make your choices. It is available to you, but will not force itself on you.
